313 Help
Free help, transit and parks for Detroit and its neighbors.
10 The idea
Food, a bed tonight, clinics, emergency rooms, Narcan, treatment, legal help, IDs, jobs, rent and utility help - for Detroit and the 74 other cities and townships its DDOT and SMART buses reach, across Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.
An app that stores nothing about you, works with no signal, and never sends you to a pantry that closed last month.
20 What's in it
1,947 listings in 62 categories, each showing its own dates in plain words. Nothing says "verified" unless a person verified it.
A map drawn on the phone itself - no tile server, no map company - with every DDOT and SMART route, the QLINE, People Mover, MoGo stations, bike lanes, 302 parks and the Joe Louis Greenway.
Walking and bus directions computed on the phone with no signal and no origin sent anywhere. Pages for all 205 Detroit neighborhoods and for each of the 75 cities and townships.
In English, Spanish, Arabic and Bengali, audited against WCAG 2.2 AA, and every map is also a text list.
30 Get it
It runs in any browser and installs to your home screen from there, on iPhone and Android alike - no app store, no account, nothing to sideload. It is the same app.
The iPhone and Android apps are going through store review now. Links will appear here when they are ready.
40 Privacy
No accounts, names, phone numbers, emails or analytics. No identifier for a resident ever leaves the device. There is no resident data to secure, which is the point.
50 Open source
Built as a gift to the City of Detroit. The code is Apache-2.0 and the directory is published separately as an open HSDS 3.2 dataset under CC BY 4.0 - so if the app ever stops, the data does not.
